Q. ‘I’ve heard of bustles snapping during dancing… My train is long-ish but it is quite light, but I don’t want to pay for a bustle if it’s not worth it. I’m really tempted to just use a wrist loop but I’m not sure how practical it would be?’
A. There is no such thing as a wrist loop. This attachment is actually for when the gown is in storage to hang the train appropriately and is beneath all the material of your gown for a reason! Hanging the loop around your wrist would be painful, eventually digging into your skin and would be such a hassle to drag around all evening. We say leave your hands free for champagne!
Did you know you could create a completely different look and manage your gown much more easily with the attachment of a bustle? The official term is an invisible hook and eye meaning the attachment is impossible to be seen by your spectators. The hook or button scoops up your train securely, ready to dance the night away and creating a subtle but significant change of image to your day time silhouette.
The hook and eye option is generally a cheap alteration coming in around the £50 bracket. For how much this would save the gown from potential damage either from dirty floors, shoes, or worse, drinks, we would highly recommend investing.
